Earlier in the month, Music & Other Drugs had the pleasure of attending Brooklyn’s National Sawdust event, The Revolution Vol. 10.
The Revolution is an emerging musical series that highlights artists and musicians that represent the core of independent pop culture this year and who are standing in the breeding ground of an evolution within their genre.
As a part of VOL. 10, The Revolution featured three incredible live performances from NYC based artists Aviva Jaye, Jonathan Greenstein, & Tangina Stone.
First up was the beautiful spirit of Aviva Jaye. The folk, soul singer brought her captivating energy to the stage with just her voice and a guitar. The highlight from her performance was her cover of one our favorite Björk songs “Hyperballad”. We had the wonderful pleasure of meeting her after the show and she gave us some really awesome stickers that we will cherish.
Next to follow Ava we had the pleasure of letting her minds drift to the smooth sounds of jazz artist, Jonathan Greenstein. Jonathan is an incredible talent with a jaw dropping live show that makes you wonder how he does it all. Backed with his amazing band, they really put on an incredible show as he played songs from his upcoming new EP. Each song had a story to tell and we fell in love with each track that he played.
Closing the show, was headliner Tangina Stone. The Canton, Ohio native set the stage on fire with her electrifying performance, playing new tracks from her upcoming debut album. The special thing about Tangina is that she is not just one genre, she blends r&b, soul, pop, rock and hip-hop all in one and brings something fresh and new to the music scene. One of our favorite moments of her show was her cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”. It’s been done many times before but something about Tangina’s just made us go literally crazy. Tangina gave a high energy show the entire time as she blazed through her new material that we all can’t wait to get our hands on.
