On Sunday, November 25th, Brooklyn’s own Phony Ppl brought their new album mō’zā-ik. to New York’s Irving Plaza. Released under 300 Entertainment, mō’zā-ik. is the follow-up album to the bands 2015 project, Yesterday’s Tomorrow.
Phony Ppl were enlisted for selected dates on Pusha T’s sold out Daytona Tour. Elbee Thrie, Elijah Rawk, Matt “Maffyuu” Byas, Aja Grant, and Bari Bass left their all to the sold out crowd. The band opened with “somethinG about your love,” from their new album mō’zā-ik. As soon as the music started, Phony Ppl captured the audiences ears, and welcomed us into their world.
During the middle of the band’s set, they transitioned their song “Take a Chance,” in to Michael Jackson’s “You Rock my World.” The crowd was entranced in Phony Ppl’s performance, and sang every word of the chorus of the Michael Jackson hit.
One of our favorite moments in any Phony Ppl performance is when they do a jam session, which generally happens after their hit song “Why iii Love the Moon.” Each piece of the band adds a unique flare to the performance, and while they are unstoppable, their individual talents shine through, and prove why Phony Ppl is here to stay. Phony Ppl ended their set with “Before You Get a Boyfriend.” from their new album.
Phony Ppl creates feel good music that is uplifting to anyone who hears it. The five-members all create an energy that is infectious that draws you in to their sound. Just like their album title, mō’zā-ik., with all the pieces of Phony Ppl, they all fit perfectly together to create one masterpiece of sound.
