Pink Palaces are back and we couldn’t be happier to get some new music from the alt-R&B duo from central Mississippi. We featured the duo last year with the release of their debut EP, Pink Noise. A pair of summer singles, together known as Summer Tape, is the perfect end of summer vibe that we needed.
Their first full-length album is currently being finished. Each release shows their quickly and constantly evolving sound. Every step of the song-making process is done by these two. Lyrics, music, instrumentation, and production are all done in-house.
Summer Tape consists of two songs – “Tension” and “Cooling Water.” Both are the perfect backdrop to late summer wind-down parties. “Tension” has a groove inspired by the bounce of classic 90s beats. The song is about a chance romantic encounter at a local spot, the concerns of how to spark up the conversation, and where it all could lead. Harmonized and stacked background vocals act almost as thoughts from within the anxious mind. “Cooling Water” has a light, bouncing groove as well, but it takes some additional inspiration from modern lo-fi and bedroom pop productions. This one speaks on how to ever build up the courage to have that encounter that “Tension” describes. Both songs come together to provide a chill, bouncy, semi-romantic summerwave sound.
We are looking forward to hearing their full length album, but until then enjoy these summery vibes below.
