Three of Motown Records newest signees, Kevin Ross, Sebastian Kole, and American Idol Finalist LaPorsha Renae, came together to an intimate showcase at New York City’s Ogilvy and Mather on Monday, October 31st. Music and Other Drugs got the opportunity to see these three rising artist belt from the depths of their souls, and create some of the most amazing sounds we have ever heard.
Sebastian Kole opened the showcase. Many may know of Sebastian Kole from his work with Alessia Cara. Kole helped co-write and co-produce Alessia Cara’s debut album, Know-It-All. Last month, Sebastian Kole released his debut album, Soup (Southern Organic Pop). Sebastian Kole captivated the audience with his humor, and incredible voice. His song “Love Doctor set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Many of us have come to know LaPorsha Renae as the finalist on the last season of American Idol. Her rendition of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” is, to this date, one of our favorite versions we have ever heard. When she stepped on to the stage, she performed Rihanna’s hit, as well as her debut single, “Good Woman.” Her debut single is a powerful anthem with commanding lyrics and production. Her debut album is expected to be released next year.
Singer/songwriter, Kevin Ross was the final Motown act to perform. He has worked with Ne-Yo, T.I., Trey Songz and many more. Kevin Ross shared an inspiring message with us all to be amazing, and be great. Earlier this year, Kevin Ross released a visual for “Be Great” in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. He has just released an official music video for the inspiring track, “Be Great.” Kevin Ross is preparing to release his debut album, early next year.
All three Motown signees joined the stage together for one last performance. They sang a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Love’s In Need of Love Today. Music and Other Drugs cannot wait to see where these three go next. Be sure to check out Sebastian Kole’s album, Soup, and be on the lookout for Kevin Ross and LaPorsha Renae’s debut albums, next year.
