On Friday, July 27th, Music and Other Drugs co-hosted WMN/N/SND. The live-music series promotes and celebrates womyn indie artists, from all backgrounds, and all genres. IMG Agency, an all women-led music label created the idea of WMN/N/SND, and AirBnb experiences backed their idea.
The nights event featured performances from Amalia Watty, and Audrey, and a special performance from Tangina Stone, and Liana Banks. WMN/N/SND is held at WMA Spaces, which is also a women-owned creative space, and the room was filled with people from all over the world, waiting to experience these rising talents. The night’s event was also sponsored by women-owned wine company Archer Roose, who was sure to keep the wine flowing all night for the guests.
Amalia Watty was on Season 1 of American Idol, where she made the top 50. Her acoustic guitar set showed us why she was a stand out talent at American Idol. Amalia voice possesses soul, strength, pain, pleasure, raw emotion. Amalia’s soul-stirring voice and lyrics moved the crowd, and pierced us with her words.
Audrey was the second artists featured on the night’s WMN/N/SND. We at Music and Other Drugs booked this artists. From first listen, we were captivated by the rising stars voice. Her track “80deg” reeled us in and hooked us from start to finish. Earlier this month, Audrey released the smash “Party,” which to date has amassed over 90k listens on Spotify, alone. Hearing her perform “Party” acoustically was a treat. Her voice has a training and control that not all 19-year old singers have.
Creatively, this show was special for us. We generally video and shoot the shows using professional cameras, but this time, we got to lift our work from digital to print. We used the Kodak Mini Shot camera. The camera fits right in the pocket for easy access, and what makes this camera stand out is the ability to print images from your phone and social media, and with the camera, using the Mini Shot app. We printed images from the night, and richness in color and clarity was superb.
The night capped off with two special performances from Tangina Stone, and Liana Banks. Tangina Stone and Liana Banks were the first two people we saw perform at the very first WMN/N/SND event. Both artists are a part of the IMG Agency team, and have become family. WMN/N/SND is a labor of love, and it is felt by every person who comes out to hear the indie artists perform.
