Last night (Feb. 2) Music and Other Drugs was able to kick it at SoHo House with Ivy Sole.
The artist is a Charlotte native by way of Philly who has been making waves ever since she dropped her debut project, Eden, last April. This time she’s back with a six track EP entitled EAST and she gave a vibe filled live preview.
Set on an intimate stage with her band, a few spotlights, and friends and fans gathered, she opened up about the influences and creative processes for the project. “EAST is about a specific moment in my life, a recurring theme,” said Sole to the audience, “it’s about belonging and finding home.”
Known for keeping her music personal and relatable, we found that EAST describes some of the struggles everyone deals with and the beautiful sides of them. As we journeyed through each song with Sole, we found an anthem of self-motivation and having to succeed with “Everything to Lose” and camaraderie in being consumed by life’s ups and downs, but holding on in “Lost”. She hypnotized the audience with her “Note to Self” interlude and moved the crowd with a tale of questioning what you want and what you deserve with “Deep”. She finished out the preview with her single “Life” featuring Dave B. and it was nothing short of an awe-inspiring trip.
The rest of night consisted of Ivy having fun on her stage with her band and even singing a cover of Daniel Caesar’s “Get You”. After ending there, the room was anything but quiet as everyone expressed their love of the project and continued to vibe.
It’s clear that Ivy Sole will continue her quick rise with honest and open music that leaves the listener not only impressed with her lyrics and voice, but with a new profound way of thinking . Her new project will drop on all streaming services on 2/7, make sure you get into it. Check out “Life” below:
