New York City comes alive at night. As the city that never sleeps, some of the most interesting happenings occur late at night. Indie band GGOOLLDD brought the city to life on Friday, as they performed their high energy heart-pulsating tracks live at New York’s own Mercury Lounge.
GGOOLLDD was formed by the band’s front woman Margaret Butler. Once she graduated from art school, she packed her things, left Baton Rouge, and headed west. In 2017, GGOOLLDD has hit the road, and has performed all over. The band is composed of front woman Margaret Butler, Nicholas Ziemann, Mark Stewart, and Nick Schubert. Their music fuses rock, pop, synths, edge, and more to create an immersive musical experience.
Seeing GGOOLLDD live shows the progression in the music. The show begins with “Bling Ring,” which is from the band’s debut EP $Tandard$. The feel good track lifted the audience from the ground as all the sounds flowed through Mercury Lounge. The show continued on with the songs “Boyz,” and our favorite “For the Night.” Ten days ago, GGOOLLDD released their newest track “Excelsior Springs,” and Music and Other Drugs got to hear the “Excelsior Springs” live, and it felt like we were lifted into a dreamland. The song is from the band’s forthcoming EP TEETH, set to be released in December.
The energy in the room was high, and GGOOLLDD’s front woman Margaret Butler fed from that energy. She interacted with the audience, jumped into the crowd, and left all the energy on the stage. Another favorite of the night was the performance of “Secrets.” The band was in sync, and all the songs were given a new life. The night ended with the popular track “Undercovers.” GGOOLLDD won us over with their performance at Mercury Lounge. The music, the style, and energy was all there. We are sure to see GGOOLLDD on festival stages very soon.
