Music and Other Drugs: Who Is Yank$? and can you take us through a day in the life of Yanks? How is it being a college student and being an artist?
Yank$: I’m literally just some dude that wanted to rap haha. I’ve always been into rap music since I was young, probably because of my dad he always had funny raps he would rap to me and he would always play dope tunes. Since I’m in school most of my days are spent going to class and getting work done. I’m a shitty student so I’m barley graduating lol but I’m graduating so that’s pretty big for me and my family. Being a student and doing music sucks unless you are going to school for music. I never can really can commit fully to the music because I always got mad schoolwork and shit so its really the blow but I’m making it work.
MaOD: Who are some of your biggest inspirations musically?
Yank$: Biggest inspirations have to be Busta Rhymes, B.I.G., Drake, and Isaiah Rashad
MaOD: We are loving your new track “Right Now,” Can you tell us about the song and what it means for you?
Yank$: That song is really funny because I’ve had it for a year now. My buddy in Sweden, SVMSON, produced the track (along with my whole EP) and we wanted to release it last summer but just never got around to it. I decided to save it for the EP because I genuinely think it’s one of the best tracks I’ve made even though its a little commercial, but my pops liked it so that’s big for ya boy.
MaOD: When can we expect your EP to drop, and can we expect anything before the release of the project?
Yank$: Hahaha, [I] wish I knew when you could expect the EP to drop. You can expect some videos coming soon.
MaOD: What was your inspiration for the EP?
Yank$: I think the biggest inspiration for my EP was myself, because I never thought that I could even put this many songs together. Every time I feel like I can’t think of anything I end up thinking of more shit to say. It’s just God having my back most of the time. I’m thankful and wanna keep looking to my life and my surroundings for my inspiration.
