Devontè Hynes just announced, via Instagram, his new song and video, “Sandra’s Smile.” Hynes, who performs under the name Blood Orange, keeps his ears and heart to the street, and his music is a true reflection of life’s experience. The video, which was shot and directed by Hynes, is filmed in New York. The British born singer really captures New York City for its nostalgic and historic feel in his new video for “Sandra’s Smile.” The black and white video captures Hynes and friends on bikes, dancing on the sidewalk, and hanging out in front of the bodega. Along with the song and video of “Sandra’s Smile,” Hynes also announced that he will be returning to the stage for one night as Blood Orange. The show will take place at the historic Apollo Theater. “All proceeds will benefit Opus 118 Harlem School of Music, a program that transforms the lives of our students and their families through access to quality music education both in-school and after-school.” Dev Hynes also talks about how important music has been to his life.
“Playing music saved my life; if it wasn’t for the chance to play cello or piano when I was a kid growing up in Essex, I shudder to think where I’d be right now. At this point in my life, all that matters to me is giving back to communities and making people happy, so I have decided to put on a fun night of performances at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem that is hopefully affordable to all, with all proceeds going to the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. New York City, let’s have some fun!”
